L’idea iniziale è quella di andare a reinterpretare il concetto tradizionale di “padiglione nel giardino” fondendo il Padiglione nel Giardino, creando un unico elemento. Garden-Pavilion è il luogo dove architettura, botanica e paesaggio si fondono l’un l’altro. La struttura che separa il terreno del giardino dal terreno del padiglione è realizzata in bambù (culmo tondo con bambù ingegnerizzato), un perfetto prodotto della natura che integra al meglio i valori di Ecologia, Comunità, Nutrizione e Bellezza.

L’idea di base, nonché punto fondamentale del progetto, consiste in dei tagli nel terreno che creano una serie di strisce, dando così profondità e allo stesso tempo ordine e simmetria. Per evidenziare questa geometria di progetto le strisce create dai solchi sono state colmate da ciottoli.

Lo spazio espositivo del padiglione si trova sotto il giardino, sotto gli archi di bambù, e si sviluppa attorno all’asse centrale che collega i due ingressi. Un insieme di culmi di bamboo tondi precurvati formano gli immensi e caratterizzanti archi che, insieme alla struttura secondaria metallica, sostengono la copertura verde che consiste in una serie di vasche modulari. Sono presenti due tipologie di archi che determinano ampiezze e altezze differenti. Il gioco tra le due diverse altezze è colmato da lamelle metalliche che permettono, insieme agli ingressi, la ventilazione naturale necessaria al mantenimento del comfort interno.

La luce naturale penetra nel padiglione non solo dalle due ampie vetrate in corrispondenza degli ingressi, ma anche da vetrate nel soffitto. Grazie alla presenza di un controsoffitto in bambù intrecciato la luce filtra e inonda di un’atmosfera speciale gli spazi interni.

Un grande open space accoglierà l’area espositiva di Inbar e di Meishan, mentre al centro si troverà un auditorium, allestito secondo le esigenze in programma. È formato, infatti, da un grande anello circolare, sospeso dal soffitto, che all’occorrenza fa calare delle tende in bamboo che chiudono l’ambiente, delimitandolo. Ai lati dell’open space si sono creati, data la forma degli archi in bamboo, ambienti più bassi, che sono stati sapientemente utilizzati per contenere tutte le funzioni di supporto (info, bar, negozio di souvenir, servizi igienici..)

Il padiglione presenta due ambienti esterni con distinte caratteristiche. A nord è stato progettato uno spazio pubblico, aperto, visibile dall’area Expo che può facilmente ospitare esposizioni temporanee. Quello a sud è, invece, un ambiente privato che viene utilizzato per incontri di lavoro e pubbliche relazioni. Infatti , in questo caso, la vegetazione circostante crea una barriera naturale che impedisce la visibilità dall’area expo ed è attrezzato con ombrelloni di bambù, tavolini e sedute che sfruttano la vicinanza dell’area coffee.

Our starting idea is a contemporary interpretation of the traditional concept of “a Pavilion in the Garden” by fusing the Pavilion into the Garden, creating one single element: Garden-Pavilion, where architecture, gardening and landscape melt into each other. Furthermore the structure which detaches the garden soil from the ground is made of bamboo (round pole with engineered bamboo), a perfect product of Nature that best integrates the values of Ecology , Community , Nutrition and Beauty. Interiors and decoration are made of Bamboo and Rattan.

The concept consists of cuts in the garden that create strips. In this way the strips give depth, order and symmetry as well. The furrows created by the “cuts” have been filled by pebbles in order to enhance the design geometry.

The pavilion exhibition space is located under the garden, under the bamboo arches, and develops around the central axis that connects the two entrances. A set of precurved round bamboo culms form the characterizing arches that, together with the secondary metal structure, support the green roof. It consists of a series of modular tanks. There are two types of arches that determine different widths and heights. The space between the two different heights is filled with metal plates that allow, together with the entrances, the natural ventilation necessary to maintain internal comfort.

Natural light comes inside the pavilion not only from the two large windows at the entrances, but also from the windows in the ceiling. Thanks to the presence of a woven bamboo ceiling, the light filters and floods the interior spaces with a special atmosphere.

The pavilion is a large open space with Inbar and Meishan exhibition area. In the center there is a circular auditorium, composed by a large circular ring and bamboo curtains that close the room, delimiting it. On the sides of the open space there are boxes that contain all the support functions (info, bar, souvenir shop, toilets ..)

The pavilion has two outdoor areas with distinct characteristics. The north one is an open public space, visible from the Expo area, where temporary exhibitions can take place. The south one is a private space that is used for business meetings and public relations. In fact thi area is surrounded by higt vegetation, a natural barrier that doesn’t allow the visibility from the expo area.
