The idea behind the preliminary design of a chair for the Reception Area and a book shelf for the Compact Living arises from the intention of using only wood. Therefore the techniques chosen for the assemblage of the pieces was thought under this logic. Such technique is "fitting" and in one case "perforation" is used as well.
The chair for the Reception Area wishes to create a space by using a high back. The problem arise was how to fix by fitting the high back of the chair, which as well as it’s natural use it can support the advertising and information system typical of reception areas. The first step was to make two solid vertical panels with a cut to fit in the 1175 cm high birch wood panel. The second, thinking on how to make the panel lighter, was to perforate the panel. Perforation is thought to be more dense on the top and less on the lower part for structural obvious reasons. Perforation works well also for supporting the advertising and information wooden panels. The image of the chair is that of a light and transparent object.
The book shelf follows a similar reasoning in terms of the assemblage technique. All the wooden elements work as the structure that by fitting make of the piece a unitary wooden object. The two side panels have cuts both for fitting the book supporting panels and for fitting the wood rods that are used to stop the books from sliding. The panels are fitted diagonally for working as bracing. The back of the library is open to make the wall of the house be the background or to be putted between two different spaces without interfering visually. The book shelf is light, simple to assemble, has a clean image and its made only of wood.
